Sign Making

Recently I've had several signs to make. Signs are always fun and usually pretty easy. Giant colored letters are such a contrast to the tiny little black ones you're reading now. Generally, you don't think about picking up or handling a letter. I think this is what makes big three dimensional letters so fascinating.

Giant King's Crown

I made this recently for a charity event. The theme was Mardi Gras and this was the top piece of a decorative float. It's made of a 3/4" light-weight MDF frame wrapped by a 1/8" MDF crown profile. It gave me the chance to use a simple geometry technique I learned recently to calculate the curve necessary for cutting the profile and having it fit perfectly on the cone shaped frame.

Salvage Yard Trip

I recently had a chance to visit on of my favorite places Sim's Recycling resale yard. You never know for sure what you're going to find but there's always something interesting. Here are a few phone photos from that trip:

Solid Copper
This is a large bin of large chunks of solid copper. I'd love to load this up in the back of my truck.

There's no shortage of aluminum here. There are several large racks of billet aluminum. Pretty much anything you could need from a few ounces to hundred's of pounds.

Does your project need a few or a lot of giant casters. If so, this is your place. I'm not sure where they came from but someone had a lot that they decided they didn't any more. Almost all of them are in excellent condition and are available by the pound.
